Angela Scott's Statement

If one believes in The Big Bang’ theory, we and everything that surrounds us, everything that we ingest and use, admire, desire or fear is made up of the same basic particles of gas and carbon. And just as we and our fellow organisms on this planet are made up of them, so we shall in time disintegrate back into particles that in turn will transform into another plant, another being and another thing of beauty or usefulness. This, and the winds and kinetic energy that distribute these particles, is what underpins the way I paint, in many cases using primary colours, which, when poured on to the canvas, infuse and mix to create greens and browns and mauves, light and dark.
I try to suggest the fragility and vulnerability of life, but also its ability to regenerate into new beings, landscapes and fauna. As a privileged and visually aware being, dependent on the fragile blue line of gas that wraps and cocoons us between hard rock and cold dark space, I feel subject to its beautiful contents: its riches and colours, its open spaces and perfect tiny petals, its raging tempests and my fellow beings and creatures. I hope that in my images I have captured some of this.
